“The Pit in the Pendulum” Project
In this unit, one of the main things it was based off was the story The Pit and The Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe. The protagonist was stuck in a pit with rats. Well he was in the pit there was a pendulum that was being swung at him that was slowly lowered. In this problem, we had to figure out whether the protagonist could escape within a minute before he died. Some of the things we learned were that the only thing that would affect the pendulum is its length. Pendulums that are longer will have a longer swing time while a shorter pendulum will have a shorter swing time. Some of the things we learned during this unit were to find equations for lines, standard deviation, and normal distribution and put things into a normal curve. During this unit, we made pendulums and measured different swing times. We then put this all in a chart and found the average. Using this information we figure out the effects of a pendulum and we estimated how much time the protagonist escaped in. I said that it took him 68.04. In reality, it took him 72.17 to escape and he made it out alive.
Alice Unit Reflection
In this unit the main things we focused on was exponents, and logarithms. We learned each of the exponent laws including divison, multiplication, and what when they is negative exponents. In this unit we also learned that whenever there is an exponent of 0 the answer is 1. Next we learned about Logarithms which is a way to solve for an unknown exponent. At the start of this unit I didn't fully understand the laws of exponents and how to calculate them but after this unit I feel I have grown and now I know how to.
