This year Violet Basley has contributed to many good aspects of the Quill media. Her first ever story that she covered was Sarah Brokett's mini-globalization project. Violet stated, “This project was my first experience and it was interesting to do.” After her work with Sarah Broketts's class, Violet wanted to reach an audience of something bigger, “ I started my work on the Ambassadors program. This story was a little more stressful due to there being a deadline.” after she finished her work gathering quotes and information she moving into something different. “My latest work for the quill was capturing yearbook photos.” Her work with the yearbook consisted of gathering students and helping students Ava, and Mariah take the photos. Being in the journalism class Violet didn't only cover stories she learned many new things about journalism as a whole. “In this class, I learned about what makes a good story. One of the things I remember is most stories will always have a bias even though they try not to, in journalism as a writer your goal is to make your story true and unbias. I also learned about the transition quote method which is used to keep the flow of the story and by using quotes keep the audience connected. When you have a strong lead and evidence to back up your stories it is sa lot stronger. ”This year Violet had gained curiosity and learned how to communicate with others effectively. “After interviewing many people for my stories I learned how to communicate effectively, I needed to ask certain questions so my stories would have what it needed.” Moving forward as a student Violet wants to continue to work on the yearbook and write more stories” Her time in the Quill Media journalism class taught her many new things that she will take into the future.
